The Chasez...his own label?

So...the Chasez has his own/has started his own record label? Weh? Well, that's what Teen Music's (shut up) telling me anyway:

Chasez Plans Comeback Album
Nov 13, 2007 - World Entertainment News Network

Former N 'Sync star JC Chasez has enlisted the help of British rocker James Bourne to help reignite his music career.

Chasez, 31, scored several hit singles with the Bye Bye Bye hitmakers, but has failed to find the solo success enjoyed by ex-bandmate Justin Timberlake.

But the singer hopes working with former Busted star Bourne, 24, will help him tap into the new generation of pop music.

He says, "I've been in and out of the studio a lot lately, working with all kinds of different artists, producers and writers."

"I had a couple sessions with James Bourne. He is a great writer."

Chasez will release the album under his own record label after losing his contract with Jive Records earlier this year.

Chasez And Jive Break Up
By Mack Rawden: 2007-09-08 21:49:38

Break ups are a sad part of life. Sometimes love just isn’t enough and a couple is forced to call it quits. Twelve thousand years ago, in the first recorded split, Lucifer and God parted ways over angelic treatment reform. Some ten thousand years later, Cleopatra and Caesar vacated their relationship after the former whored it up with half of Egypt. A few years ago, Hollywood super couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston separated after a Jolie got between them. But that’s not even the most horrific. Not by a long shot.

According to Billboard former ‘N Sync member JC Chasez and his record company, Jive, have changed their Facebook status’ to single. Oh the horror! Things seemed great in 2004 when the ex boy band member released his only solo album, Schizophrenic, but over the last few summers, the relationship has distilled amidst rumors of Jive cheating with other musicians. The lyin’ bastard!
It’s unclear where Chasez will take his finished follow-up Kate, but something tells me he’ll eventually find a new label.

Former 'NSYNC crooner JC Chasez is a free agent. Months after his single "Until Yesterday" was released and his second solo album failed to materialize, Chasez has parted ways with Jive, according to his longtime label. He told EW.com the decision was mutual and that he wanted to "wipe the slate clean and then take on as many suggestions and ideas [as possible]." In an even more startling development, the singer said he recently wrote a song called "Treat Me Right" for the new album from his former nemeses, the Backstreet Boys. ...

Chasez Says 'Bye Bye Bye' to Jive
The former 'N Sync star is ready to "wipe the slate clean" and begun shopping for a new label after a "mutual decision" to part ways

By Simon Vozick-Levinson
— Additional reporting by Shirley Halperin
Posted Sep 07, 2007

Former 'N Sync singer JC Chasez is leaving his longtime label, Jive Records, he exclusively tells EW.com

Chasez says he is currently in talks with other labels after the "mutual decision" to part ways with Jive. "I want to wipe the slate clean and then take on as many suggestions and ideas [as possible]." Representatives for Jive could not immediately be reached for comment.

Jive released all of 'N Sync's albums, as well as Chasez's less successful 2004 solo debut, Schizophrenic. Last fall the label released a single, "Until Yesterday," in advance of a planned follow-up CD, but the song failed to gain traction on the radio and the album was never released.

Chasez is also working with other artists as a producer and songwriter, and reveals that he recently wrote a track called "Treat Me Right" for an upcoming album by the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync's onetime arch rivals.

Billboard sez...

JC Chasez Cuts Ties With Jive
September 07, 2007, 6:50 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Former 'N Sync member JC Chasez has cut ties with longtime label Jive Records, which released his lone solo album, 2004's "Schizophrenic." Its follow-up, tentatively titled "Kate," was intended for release by Jive earlier this year but will now appear on a new label to be announced.

Of late, Chasez has worked as a songwriter on projects for Backstreet Boys, Sugababes and Leona Lewis, and has also written collaboratively with Richard Marx and Kara DioGuardi.

As for "Kate," it is tipped to include collaborations with 'N Sync mate Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Dallas Austin and Billy Steinberg. "It establishes a sound that is specific to me, a mash of all things," Chasez told Billboard.com last year. "I hope it'll be fresh for radio and listeners. In '97 and '98, pop ruled. But now hip-hop is the phenomenon and top 40 radio doesn't play pop records anymore."

On the big screen, look for Chasez in the upcoming independent film "Killer Movie," as well as making guest spots on NBC's "Las Vegas" and the CW's "The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll."

The Chasez

It's pretty obvious that I've been under a rock, 'cause I missed all this! JC's doing his annual het photo parade, but it's accompanied by a flurry of public "is he or isn't he?" speculation. Lance coming out of the closet no doubt sharpened the focus on my boy.

Just doing my usual anal-retentive compiling, so please feel free to ignore if sparkly dance bois aren't your thing.

JC (gay?) in blogs )

Also? While all of these pictures pretty much kilt me ded, this one turned my uterus inside out and made it squeal. If JC and Jonathan Rhys Myers could have babies, that would be the result.

Every time I think I've escaped his sweetly evil clutches, the Chasez just cackles and reels me back in.

JC in print! You just know the author's really a fan.

Okay, so am I the last person to see this? I love Google, like, for serious. JC (and A.D.I.D.A.S.) were referenced in a novel. You can read the entire excerpt here, or you can read just the JC-related bit below. Not entirely complimentary, unfortunately, except the last line, which could be read in a completely complimentary way.

JC - review blurb for 'Until Yesterday,' Yay!

Relevant bit snagged from monstersandcritics.com: Music Reviews: Single Review: Evanescence, Alan Jackson, Jewel, Norah Jones, JC Chasez, Josh Kelley.

"Until Yesterday" - JC Chasez

To date, JC Chasez`s post-`N Sync career has met resistance due to a bagful of musical tricks that attempted to cast the singer as a hip-hop aficionado to less-than-convincing effect. "Until Yesterday" marks a dramatic change in his musical approach, with a minor-chord-driven Beatles-esque meets 'Rocky Horror' track about discovering your girlfriend is pregnant with another man`s kid.

It doesn`t hurt that former groupmate Justin Timberlake co-produced and co-wrote the track, giving Chasez newfound cachet. He remains a fairly nondistinctive vocalist, but
"Yesterday" is a head-turner that could pave the way to a formidable new identity down the hitmaking highway.

"Fairly nondistinctive vocalist," jigga wha? Asswipe. Gotta give the "head-turner paving the way to a formidable new identity" part a big thumbs up, though.

Asswipe.

A small but positive JC mention in a review of Justin's album:

Justin’s voice may not have the power and vocal brilliance of his former colleague in ‘NSync, JC Chasez, but he more than makes up for it in technique and charisma.

JC Chasez No Longer 'Schizophrenic'

From aolmusicnewsblog.com:

JC Chasez No Longer 'Schizophrenic'
Posted Oct 5th 2006 1:38PM by Jolie Lash

JC Chasez's new single, 'Until Yesterday,' written with former *NSYNC band mate Justin Timberlake, was composed while the singer was in the midst of a self-imposed music blackout.

"I tried to stay as far away from everything as I could," Chasez says. "I wanted to create something that's really my own sound, and I feel like I've actually accomplished it."

"My last record [2004's 'Schizophrenic'] was more electro-clash, and this record went more guitar-based," the singer says. "I think every artist should grow with each record."

Helping out on the upcoming album were producers and songwriters in various locales. From Timberlake in L.A. to Timbaland in Miami and Dallas Austin in Atlanta, Chasez says the travel encouraged him to grow while writing the album. "Sometimes you lock yourself in a room and you come up with one batch of material that's great, but it's also fun to go to new places and be inspired," he says. "It triggers new, fresh ideas."

On the hunt for more JC stuff...

Okay, you've got to love an article that describes the subject's outfit. This outfit, as a matter of fact. From The New York Observer:

Happiness

“I think Lance is happier now, in some respects,” ’N Sync heartthrob JC Chasez said. His former bandmate Lance Bass recently clarified his sexuality to the world. (“I’m Gay,” blared People’s Aug. 7 cover line over a picture of Mr. Bass wearing a blue dress shirt and his best “This is me!” face.)

Mr. Chasez was hanging tough with some bros around midnight at Marquee in the middle of last week; it was L.A.-based boutique Satine’s turn to throw a Fashion Week party. The former boy-band member, now 30, had come from the Bagley Mischka show. He enjoys fashion and thinks this Fashion Week was particularly “well-executed.”

Back on Mr. Bass: “You know, now he can go on with his life and not have to deal with people asking the question all the time,” said Mr. Chasez, who wore a pair of green plaid pants deftly tempered by a conservative gray Hugo Boss cardigan over a white oxford and black tie—Windsor knot, extra fat. “So I guess it’s a good thing in that way.”

He was full of qualifiers like that. Mr. Chasez was appalled by the insensitive and relentless behavior of the media that forced Mr. Bass’ hand.

In his coming-out article, Mr. Bass, 27, said that he had decided to speak out because the rumors “were really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it’s on my terms.”

“It’s unfortunate that he found himself in a position where he felt obligated to tell the world about his sexuality,” said Mr. Chasez. Mr. Chasez tabloid-famously dated Eva Longoria.

“He was being probed, you know,” Mr. Chasez said. “That’s not right. What happens in your bedroom is your business and no one else’s.”

Career-wise, Mr. Chasez was eager to promote his as-of-yet-untitled solo album, which comes out early next year, and his new single, called “Until Yesterday,” which officially drops, as they say, on Oct. 30. The song, he told reporters earlier this month, is about dealing with “your girlfriend getting knocked up with another man’s baby.”

JC stuff! Good stuff!

Seen in topaz119's journal, and now I'll have it for my very own.

PopWatch - Snap judgment: JC Chasez's 'Until Yesterday', by Michael Slezak at ew.com:

Let me preface my remarks about JC Chasez's new single, ''Until Yesterday'' (co-written by fellow 'N Sync alum Justin Timberlake) by saying that I'm probably one of 11 people on the planet who still listens to the guy's first solo disc, 2004's Schizophrenic. And while ''Until Yesterday'' (click here to hear it streaming at AOL Music) has an undeniably driving beat and a sticks-in-your-head melody that converge and build to a very dramatic crescendo (a la ''Cry Me a River''), the lyrics of this single give me uncomfortable cause for pause. Aren't there ways to sing about paternity drama without resorting to screechingly un-poetic lines like, ''The baby's not my blood type''? And seriously, JC, when the line ''If you play with fire, then you'll get burned'' is the leadoff batter for your chorus, then perhaps it's time to set down the pen and back away from the obvious clichés.

Idolator lists 'Until Yesterday' as the Pick of the Day in their Friday MP3 Roundup:

JC Chasez is pretty much absolved for his boy-band sins for two reasons: his idea to sample Pac-Man on N'Sync's "The Game Is Over" and his over-the-top turn on the Basement Jaxx's "Plug It In." (We'll even forgive him for his dalliance with Tara Reid.) Now, we have "Until Yesterday," which was co-written with ex-bandmate Justin Timberlake. It's a doozy--prepare yourself for a stomping take on the power ballad, complete with sorta corny lyrics, a Freddie Mercury-channeling backing choir, military drums, and a fist-raising run-up to the final chorus.

Not a bad start, eh? Yay!

JC! Holy cats, is it really gonna happen before 2008?

Posted by 10764127 here at the Board of Weeping, Wailing and Infinite Doom:

JIVE updated JC's official website with AOL First Listen info.

"Visit AOL Music on Monday, September 25th, for a First Listen of JC's new single, "Until Yesterday" from his brand new album coming soon. "Until Yesterday" was co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake."

Also, seen around LJland and here at the Board of Doom, posted by insecure x blue, JC's going to be on Q100 in Atlanta tomorrow!

A fan posted on JC's myspace about it and I checked the radio site and it says they'll talk to him. I guess you can stream it at allthehitsq100.com

And it's The Bert Show 5:30am-10am their time.

Wow. So the promo machine is gearing up, eh? And there are new promo pics somewhere, I heard? Time to take another stroll through my friends pages to see what pops up...

The old switcheroo!

Justin released his first solo album before JC's, so when JC's dropped comparisons were inevitable - for some reason. Oddly, the shoe's on the other foot and Justin's newest Future Sex/Love Sounds, is being compared to Schizophrenic. Jigga wha??? Sadly, the comparison isn't a good one, but the the Orlando Sentinel reviewer balances some harsh comments (about Justin) with some good.

Old but interesting: complimentary and not, all at once.

So I'm trolling for JC bits and I've just come across another one that I haven't seen. This one is from some guy's blog, dated 04/01/2005. From this blog: Max & Mike on the Movies. I was mostly AWOL from LJ then, so you guys have probably already seen this. Putting it here for posterity!

One of these days I'm going to tag all of this stuff.

Oh, Chasez Can You See?

People are always coming up to me on the street and saying, “Hey Max, I know you’re a nationally famous film critic, but what kind of music do you listen to?” (Well, okay, they never actually do that. But wouldn’t it be cool if they did?)

The other day I was listening to what has to be the least cool album in my collection, Schizophrenic by JC Chasez, and I decided it was fine time I told you good people about it.

First, let’s just get this out of the way: Yes, that JC Chasez: The kid from N SYNC who isn’t Justin Timberlake. The moderately pretty boy with the generically smooth voice and the jauntily tilted fedora. An ex-boy band member destined to be road kill on our pop culture super-highway. And no, this is NOT an April Fool’s joke.

But here’s the thing: I bought this Schizophrenic album last winter, based on my enjoyment of its Prince-like single: “All Day Long I Dream About Sex.” I thought the song was weird, groovy, and irresistibly catchy.

I immediately fell in love with the disc. Indeed, it was the first CD I ever listened to in MC Sparky. It perfectly mirrored the mood I was in: Giddy, upbeat, silly, and jonesin’ for the summer time.

Let me make one thing clear: There is no depth to this album. At all. Its basic message is this: “Sex, sex, sex. I love sex.” Which, God love him, at least is honest. But that’s not the point: The point is, Justin Timberlake got all this love and sold all of these albums and became the darling of the record industry and I happen to think Schizophrenic a better CD than Justified.

True to its title, the songs vary wildly: One sounds like ‘80s new wave, one sounds kind of Jason Mraz-like, one sounds like Lenny Kravitz, a whole bunch sound like Prince, another one sounds exactly like Sting . . . I think you get the point.

Is the entire album great? Naaa, there are a few duds. But it’s amazingly consistent most of the way through. Do I think JC Chasez is a musical genius? Hardly. I just think he captured lightning in a bottle (with a lot of help from his producers). I’ll buy his next album out of loyalty but I doubt he can duplicate this album’s addictive grooves.

Anyway, just thought I’d share. If you buy the CD, lemme know what you think.

P.S. Most of my musical taste is not quite so tragically unhip. The new Beck album rulez.

Out-of-nowhere mention of JC's hair.

It's always interesting to see JC turn up in the press, especially bizarre, random bits like this one. Who'd have thought he'd end up on a list of ten of the most flamboyantly hair-conscious celebs in the music world?

I'm thinking *really* slow news day. Was this part of a larger piece? I'm confused, but still amused to see my boy mentioned, even if it is a very gentle dig at the goofy not!mullet.

Wild hair days happen often in music world

Sunday, September 03, 2006
By Lorilee Craker
The Grand Rapids Press

From moptops to mullets, lids on the stars can be, shall we say, adventuresome. Here are some reflections on some of the most flamboyant in the music world.

Pink -- OK, girl, decide: This in-between business of the shaved sides and big skunk-like ribbon of droopy hair won't get any party started.

Lyle Lovett -- Maybe the real reason singing for his hit "Don't Touch My Hat" was so people wouldn't take the 10-gallon topper off his rat's nest.

Michael Score -- The Flock of Seagulls vocalist must have had to work long hours to look like he'd gotten stuck in a cotton candy machine.

Cyndi Lauper -- Girls just wanna have fun, and one way in the '80s was to wear their hair a la Cyndi -- off-center and day-glo, with matching eye shadow.

Christina Aguilera -- If this big-voice, big-hair pop diva's locks get any lighter and brighter, her hair will turn blue.

Billy Ray Cyrus -- He sings, "I Want My Mullet Back" -- funny, because he still wore the "business up front, party in the back" style a decade after the look peaked.

George Jones -- Tammy Wynette was all for standing by her man, but that puffy-top, puffy-sides look must have made it hard.

Neil Young -- He has a song called "Let's Impeach the President." Maybe Young should impeach his barber while he's at it.

Cher -- Not that we're expecting her suddenly to sport Granny's helmet 'do, but at 60, she might want to lay off the platinum dye job.

JC Chasez -- Hair cops got busy when they saw his short-and-long lid. One online petition urged him to cut it short for the good of all ex-boy-banders.

Like I said, slooooow news day. :-)

Possible JC tour mentioned on TV Guide channel???

Weh?

Courtesy of this post at the JJB (diving in so you don't have to), Jayne posted the tidbit from peachesncreme. Apparently, the Guide visited Joey on the Fame set. The reported said that the group is getting back together once Justin and JC finish their solo tours.

!!!

I haven't seen anyone mention this yet. Has anyone else seen it? Dare I get my hopes up? Eeeee!

Surfed over to the TV Guide site to see if there's a mention there, but I was temporarily sidelined by this article about Tarzan (and a picture!). I see fall's hot slash fandom on the horizon, kids.

Secrets Spilled at WB Fall Preview Event
by Michael Ausiello

The Tarzan session begins and, to the horror of all the ladies and gay men in the audience, Calvin Klein model-turned-tree swinger Travis Fimmel appears on stage fully clothed!

Fimmel proves you can have abs of steel and be funny (bastard!) when he's asked what it's like to walk down the street and see giant billboards of himself half naked. "I live in L.A.," he responded wryly. "We don't walk."

Former X-Files star Mitch Pileggi disses his alma mater when he describes his new Tarzan character — one-note baddie Richard Clayton — as being "much more complex than Skinner." Somewhere, Chris Carter is killing off the FBI director in the opening scene of the next X-Files movie.

The Tarzan session ends, and Fimmel's manager is overheard reassuring Fimmel that he did a "fantastic" job on stage. Fimmel ignores him and heads straight to the snack table to grab some fruit. (Pretty boy must be a method actor because he didn't even use a fork. Travis bad! Shame on Travis!)

Edited to add: No, I didn't seen anything about the Chasez on the TV Guide site. If there's a link to their TV features, I couldn't find it!
